UNC Football will conclude the 2024 season in the Fenway Bowl against UConn

It’s been a crazy month for the UNC football program since it last took the field on November 30th.

From the firing of Mack Brown as the program’s head coach to the appointment of Bill Belichick as the program’s next leader, there have been numerous changes in Chapel Hill. As Belichick and his staff prepare for next season, the current team still has one game left as it will face UConn in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl on Saturday morning in Boston, Massachusetts.

Freddie Kitchens, who will return to the coaching staff next season, will lead the group in the bowl game. Even though Omarion Hampton won’t be suiting up as he prepares for the NFL Draft, the majority of the roster will still be there, so you can expect to see a lot of familiar faces in the group playing at Fenway.

UConn finished the regular season with a record of 8-4 as they won four of their final five games. This group was battle tested as each of these games was decided by 8 points or less.

One thing is certain: the Huskies want to dominate football. Cam Edwards and Durell Robinson lead a very talented running back group as each of them rushed for over 700 yards this season. Together they reached the end zone 15 times and covered a total of 1,478 yards. If you add Mel Brown’s 577 yards on the ground, this group surpasses the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season.

North Carolina needs to focus on stopping the run if they want to win this game.

Although these two schools are known as basketball schools, they will meet on a football field (at a baseball stadium) for the fourth time on Saturday morning. While some may call these types of bowl games meaningless, there is still plenty to gain on both sides, especially for the Tar Heels, who will usher in a new era of UNC football next fall.
