United passenger banned after fellow passengers had to restrain him with zip ties: VIDEO

A United Airlines passenger was reportedly restrained by several fellow passengers after repeatedly stomping on his own seat mid-flight.

United Flight 502 was en route from Austin to Los Angeles on Saturday, November 16, when the shocking incident occurred.

Video footage captured by another person on the flight, Gino Galofaro, shows the disruptive passenger standing in what appears to be his own seat and throwing it into the row of seats behind him.

There doesn’t seem to be anyone sitting in his row or the row behind him. United confirmed there were 76 passengers and five crew members on board.

According to SWNS, Galofaro claims he woke up to the disturbance and was shocked when a flight attendant came by several times and allegedly did nothing to remedy the situation.

The San Diego-based addiction counselor said he and two other travelers on the flight helped restrain the passenger’s hands and feet with zip ties when no one else intervened.

He added that they were about 40 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport when they restrained him and strapped him in.

Although police met the plane after it landed, Galofaro noted that he wants to communicate with the passenger’s family and see if he can help them.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, United Airlines said, “On November 16, local law enforcement encountered United Flight 502 upon its arrival at Los Angeles International Airport after a customer became disruptive.”

While they didn’t describe exactly what the disruptive behavior was, they confirmed: “We have banned this customer from future United flights.”

The statement continued: “We thank our crew for their help in dealing with the situation and for their work to ensure the safety of everyone on board.”

PEOPLE reached out to LAX police for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

Last week, passengers aboard American Airlines Flight 1915 found themselves in a similar situation when they had to restrain a passenger with duct tape after he allegedly tried to open the cabin door mid-flight.

That flight was en route from Milwaukee to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Tuesday, November 19, when the disruptive passenger approached a flight attendant on board and said he needed to get off the plane immediately.

According to a report filed by the DFW Department of Public Safety and obtained by PEOPLE, several passengers used duct tape to restrain the passenger’s wrists and ankles after he allegedly hit the flight attendant as he attempted to open the door.
