Update on Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck’s injury

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck left the SEC Championship game against the Texas Longhorns after suffering an upper-body injury on the final play of the first half.

Beck tried to take his time attempting a Hail Mary pass but was sacked and fumbled. Texas defensive end Trey Moore sacked Beck and grabbed Beck’s throwing arm.

Beck’s throwing arm, hand or shoulder appeared to have been injured in the game. He remained on the ground for a long time as both teams went to the locker room.

“Yes, he has an upper extremity injury,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said after the game. “We don’t know to what extent. Basically we looked at it there and it looked okay. But he had no grip strength and couldn’t throw the ball into the locker room. That’s why it was a bit painful. “So we need to find out exactly what’s going on and do an MRI to investigate.”

Georgia played Beck on the final play of the game after backup quarterback Gunner Stockton fired a shot in the head. Beck handed the ball to running back Trevor Etienne, who scored a game-winning touchdown.

Georgia’s next game won’t be until the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1, so Beck will have over three weeks to recover.
