Utah State secures a 75-68 win over Saint Mary’s

MORAGA, Calif. – In a tough matchup on Sunday, Utah State secured a victory over Saint Mary’s with a 75-68 win at UCU Pavilion in Moraga, Calif.

The Aggies opened the game with remarkable energy, particularly from second-year forward Karson Templin, who sparked a 13-2 run by sinking three straight three-pointers.

The offensive burst gave Utah State a 17-7 lead. And although the Gaels responded with a run that cut the deficit to a single point, Utah State finished the half with 16 of its final 20 points.

Senior forward Aubin Gateretse led the team with 10 points, contributing to a 39-27 halftime lead.

The Aggies maintained the momentum and extended their lead to as many as 17 points, highlighted by a personal 6-0 run from freshman guard Jordy Barnes.

Despite a tenacious performance from Saint Mary’s, which managed to reduce the deficit to 10 points with seven and a half minutes remaining, Utah State maintained its composure.

The Gaels’ late lead, scoring 10 points in the final two and a half minutes, was not enough to overcome the Aggies’ lead, ending with a final score of 75-68.

The Aggies dominated the field by a score of 40-22 and outrebounded the Gaels 31-27, even though Saint Mary’s came into the game with a strong reputation as a rebounder.

Additionally, Utah State had excellent ball movement and recorded assists on 23 of its 30 made baskets.

This win ends Utah State University’s non-conference schedule and improves their record to 11-1. The Aggies now embark on a three-game road trip that begins with a match against San Diego State on December 28th.

Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s, with a record of 10-3, will look to bounce back in upcoming contests as they prepare for conference play.
