Valerie Bertinelli slams critics who judged her skin-baring underwear snap “harshly”.

Valerie Bertinelli has a stern message for those who “harshly” criticized her vulnerable photo showcasing her figure.

“To everyone who judges my body, the photo and the reason for posting it: I hope you find a place in your heart where you don’t judge yourself as harshly as you judge others,” the celebrity chef continued Instagram.

“I have dealt with judgment my entire life, starting when I was a young girl. It took me a long time to realize that my judgment, with patient discernment, is the only judgment that matters.”

The 64-year-old Food Network star’s comments came a day after she shared a bathroom selfie photo in which she bared her skin as she stripped down to her black bra and matching underwear.

She continued to be open about her self-esteem in an emotional but honest social media post.

“I have no power over other people’s judgment of me and now I have no interest. Finally.”

Bertinelli explained that it took her almost three years of “emotional labor” to “mentally” disregard the judgment of others.

“For the first time in my life, I love my body the way it is. It’s not a 20 year old’s body that I hated and it’s really a shame that I hated that beautiful body,” she wrote in part.

“As challenging as it was and is, I am grateful for this journey and would never trade this body for my 20-year-old body. Never.”

Bertinelli previously pointed out her “bumpy wrinkles and sagging” spots in her bathroom selfie as she bared it all. She noted that she felt “acceptance” and “simple appreciation” for the life she had been given.

It wasn’t always an easy path in life for Bertinelli.

At the beginning of the year, Bertinelli decided to give up alcohol and focus more on her future and less on her past.

She shares videos and inspirational messages that encourage her followers to “never forget the wonder of being here.”

“First came work,” she previously told People. “Why I thought I didn’t deserve to be loved. Why I used food to numb my feelings. All the drama and trauma I hadn’t been able to deal with – with Ed and my last marriage.”

“Ed” refers to the late musician Eddie Van Halen, her first husband and father of her only child, Wolfgang Van Halen. Her last marriage was to financial planner Tom Vitale, whom she divorced in 2022.
