Victor Wembanyama’s injury status and update ahead of the Kings’ game against Spurs

Victor Wembanyama’s injury status and update ahead of the Kings’ game against Spurs

After losing to the Memphis Grizzlies in a nerve-racking duel, the Sacramento Kings now play their second road game in a row against the San Antonio Spurs.

A 10-13 team that has lost seven of its last nine games, the Kings desperately need a win in the loaded Western Conference (the Kings are currently in 12th place in the West). The Spurs are a young team led by their great starting center Victor Wembanyama.

However, a back injury kept Wembanyama from playing in the Spurs’ Thursday night game against the Chicago Bulls (they lost the game without him). Will he be available for this game? Who will the Kings miss? Here is the full injury report for this game.

After going through a rough patch due to injuries, the Kings are returning to the trend of good health they’ve experienced over the last two games (*hits wood aggressively*). The only player in his normal rotation currently listed on the injury report is Trey Lyles.

Lyles is out with the calf strain he suffered last week against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lyles will not be reevaluated until the end of the month. So there’s a good chance we won’t see him again for the rest of 2024.

Note that we said the only player in his “normal rotation.” The Kings are still missing their 2024 first-round draft pick, Devin Carter. Carter doesn’t have a chance to crack the rotation yet as he spent the entire first part of the season recovering from an offseason shoulder injury.

Now to the Wembanyama of it all. Wembanyama missed Spurs’ game against the Bulls yesterday due to lower back pain.

At this time there is no information regarding Wembanyama’s injury status ahead of this game. But given the toughness (or should we say, lack thereof) and the fact that Spurs are also playing in back-to-back games, there’s a chance the Spurs strategically used this little issue to rest their star.

On the other hand, one could argue that the Spurs want to be cautious with their prized center and give him another game of additional rest. Overall, I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance of him fitting.

Tre Jones also missed the Bulls game with a shoulder injury. His status has also not been updated for this game yet. Jones has had an injury-riddled season so far in 2024-25, missing 14 of the Spurs’ first 22 games.

Following this game, the Kings return home to take on the Utah Jazz on Sunday, December 8th.
