Former captain Virat Kohli said R Ashwin touched him emotionally when he told him about his decision to retire. In a heartwarming post on social media, Kohli paid tribute to India’s most successful off-spinner and wished him all the best for his career after retirement.

Highlighting R Ashwin’s match-winning contributions in Test cricket, Virat Kohli said the off-spinner “will be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket”.

Ashwin retired from international cricket on WednesdayMinutes after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended in a rain-affected draw.

“I played with you for 14 years and when you told me today that you were retiring it touched me a little and I have memories of all the years I played together. I enjoyed every part of the journey with you.” “Ash, your skills and match-winning contributions to Indian cricket are unmatched and you will always and forever be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket,” Virat Kohli said in his post.

“I wish you nothing but the best in your life with your family and whatever else comes your way. With great respect and love for you and your loved ones. Thanks for everything, buddy,” he added.

Virat Kohli and R Ashwin shared a warm hug during a break in the rain in the dressing room at Gabba, Brisbane on Wednesday, December 18. Ashwin and Kohli had an intense conversation on the fifth day of the third Test, leading to rumors of retirement.

Ashwin ensured that the rumors didn’t last long when he announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket right after the end of the third Test. Ashwin attended the press conference along with India captain Rohit Sharma to confirm his decision.
