Volaris passenger arrested for attempting to hijack plane and divert to US

A passenger on a Mexican budget airline was arrested by authorities on Sunday after attempting to divert a plane to the United States, the airline reported.

Volaris reported that Flight 3041 was en route to Tijuana, a coastal city in Baha on the Southern California border, when crew members intervened and “restrained” the passenger, the airline posted on social media.

The Airbus A320 took off from Bajío International Airport in central Mexico at 7:17 a.m., according to FlightAware, a website that tracks flight routes

The airline reported that the passenger “attempted to forcibly divert the plane to the United States,” but did not provide details about the exact events on board.
