BOSTON (WHDH) – A shocking video shared on social media Wednesday night showed drivers driving through a flooded Ted Williams Tunnel in Boston as heavy rain fell across the city.

According to the Department of Transportation, flooding in the area of the Congress Street on-ramp at I-93 was attributed to debris blocking a storm drain and a broken pump.

The flooding prompted authorities to divert traffic away from the Ted Williams Tunnel until repairs could be made, the department said. It took about two men to make the necessary repairs, and the store reopened around 11 p.m

Maria Barajas was in an Uber with friends as they drove through the water.

“There was a police presence, there was a lot of traffic, we had just never seen that before,” she said. “We were encouraged to go extra slow because there was so much water… I think it’s a little scary just seeing how much water is coming in.”
