(CBS DETROIT) – A Wayne County man’s routine of grabbing a cup of coffee and a scratch-off ticket paid off when he won a $300,000 top prize on the Michigan Lottery’s Make It Rein instant game.

The 56-year-old player, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased his ticket at the Speedway gas station at 37416 7 Mile Road in Livonia.

“I stopped at the gas station to get coffee and an instant ticket, as I have done every day for the last eight years,” the player said in a statement. “I scratched the ticket when I got back to my car and thought I had won $30,000. I spent the next half hour looking through the ticket until I finally went into the store to check it again.

“After the clerk scanned it, he handed it back and told me I hadn’t scratched off all the zeros. That’s when I realized I had actually won $300,000. I couldn’t believe it!”

The man plans to use his winnings to buy a new vehicle, put part of it into his children’s college fund and invest the rest.

According to the Michigan Lottery, players have won more than $4 million on Make It Rein since the game’s release in October. Prizes range from $5 to $300,000, and there are more than $16 million in prizes still up for grabs, including a $300,000 grand prize.
