We are launching a Lawrence Public Schools community network. How to get to us – The Lawrence Times

The Lawrence Times is launching a community network to help us better cover all the issues that matter in Lawrence Public Schools.

Our goal is to provide as comprehensive coverage of Lawrence Public Schools as possible, and that includes a lot. We know there are problems in schools – for example, there were serious problems with the heating system in some classrooms this week. But there are also many incredible things happening, like the group of student journalists from Lawrence High School who were recently recognized for their courage in advocating for freedom of the press.

This is our goal Raise awareness and promote accountability when the bad things happen, and too highlight the many great things what people do – especially when it’s our youngest community members who are behind them.

This work begins with us simply figuring something out. While we’re still a small news team and don’t always have the resources to cover every story, we want to cover as many as possible – but we definitely can’t report on things we don’t know about.

This is where you come into play. Many of our most important stories started with a single tip from a reader.

One way we would like to use this network could be to send a quick email to everyone asking them if they are aware of any specific issues in their buildings so we can identify patterns more quickly. For example, when we learned about the problems with heating systems this week, we were able to learn fairly quickly from sources that there were problems beyond the three schools the district addressed in initial correspondence. Prior to publication, we learned of two additional schools that were struggling, and thanks to more district families, we’re learning more about them today.

We’d also like to hear about the big and small victories of students, classes, teachers and more. Some of our favorite articles are about the amazing things students and teachers are doing. We also want to celebrate.

Whether your contribution to our network is as simple as forwarding us an important email or letting us know about a cool project your child’s class is doing, or as complex as sending regular updates about the, whatever is going on in a school, your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you are interested in informing our news team, please fill out the form below (or visit the form at lawrenceks.news/lt497networkform).

The form is no obligation to do anything – just a quick note to say, “Hey! I’m interested and your team can contact me.”

And if you’re not sure if you’re interested right now, that’s no problem – we’ll be there for you when you’re ready!

Your privacy and that of your family is crucial. We will never share your information outside of our news team without your permission.

We know it can be scary to speak out, especially if you believe your job may be at risk. We would never reveal our sources without their consent – and as journalists we are protected by law from being forced to reveal the identities of our sources.

If we need to send an email to several members of the network at the same time, we use BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) so that your contact information is not shared with third parties, even if you “reply all” and may respond to more than one member of our news -Teams at the same time. However, if you have an email address or device issued by your district, please exercise caution before using that account or device to communicate with us.
