Simone Inzaghi warns they need “the real Inter” for this trip to Cagliari and cannot afford to be distracted by the Supercoppa Italiana.

It starts at 5pm GMT at the Unipol Domus Arena.

The Nerazzurri are three points behind leaders Atalanta but also have a game in hand against Fiorentina, albeit due to a busy schedule that won’t take place until February.

“We had five days off, tried to celebrate Christmas with our families, now we have De Vrij back, but otherwise it’s the same squad I had against Como,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

Stefan de Vrij returns to the starting eleven, although the defense remains weakened by the absence of Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard.

“We know that the Supercoppa is very important, but our only thought at the moment has to be Cagliari,” emphasized Inzaghi.

“They suffered three defeats in a row, but they were all good performances that showed tactical organization. We have to see the real Inter today.”

They are already preparing to fly to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana, where they will face Atalanta on January 2nd and then potentially play the final against Juventus or Milan.

“A strong start is important, we have been coming here for many years and know how much atmosphere the Cagliari fans provide. We have to start stronger than in the last few games and continue to improve.”
