Weather forecast for New Orleans: When will it rain and how cold will it be?

Weather forecast for New Orleans: When will it rain and how cold will it be?

Track showers, heavier rain, possible thunderstorms and much colder air in your New Orleans weather forecast. Heavier rain will move in overnight and could bring the heaviest rain just in time for most of us to be trying to get where we need to go Thursday morning. Rainfall totals could be between 1 and 2 inches in some places if there is one or two thunderstorms. Allow extra time for getting around on Thursday morning as wet roads are likely. As for temperatures, we could see slightly milder temperatures in the morning with slightly cooler air in the afternoon. After sunset, colder air enters. Some sunshine looks possible until the afternoon. Much colder air will arrive by Friday morning. Combine the cold air with a gusty northeasterly wind, and we’ll have to deal with some cold, wind-chilled temperatures across the region. There should be some sunshine on Friday, but it will be a windy and cold day with high temperatures only in the 50s! Looking at Saturday, I don’t see much sun shining through, but I see NO chance of heavy rain or a washout like last year. At worst, a drizzle is possible, but expect temperatures to range from about 53 degrees in the morning to 59 degrees by the end of the parade under cloudy skies. Clouds will continue throughout Sunday, with more heavy rain and possible thunderstorms overnight into Monday morning. This could lead to locally heavy rain, posing a risk of flooding. That’s why we’ve created a WDSU First Warning Weather IMPACT Day from Sunday night through Monday morning. The forecast data is mixed after Monday, making any rain forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday highly suspect. Rain is likely Thursday morning, then Friday will be one of our coldest days yet. Cloud cover will then return over the weekend before another round of heavy rain sets in overnight from Sunday into Monday morning. There could potentially be more rain by Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but that forecast isn’t very reliable at the moment. Be careful, slow down and allow extra time for getting around on Thursday morning! –Devon
