Weather warning for Houston due to possible storms on Saturday, December 28th

Parts of the Houston area are below Level 2 out of 5, meaning a low risk of severe weather.

HOUSTON – Be prepared for a change in the weather as we head into the weekend that could mean another round of severe weather. After Friday’s pleasant sunshine and highs in the 70s, there’s a 70% chance of showers and storms Saturday, some of which could become severe. For this reason we are issuing a weather warning for Saturday. The main care times are between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m

Active guards and alerts

  • A Tornado warning applies to northwest Harris and southern Montgomery counties until 12:15 p.m
  • A Severe thunderstorm warning applies to north-central Montgomery, northwest San Jacinto and southeast Walker counties until 12:30 p.m
  • A Tornado watch applies to Montgomery, Liberty, San Jacinto, Grimes, Walker, Trinity, Polk and Washington counties until 5:00 p.m

Scattered showers will begin around 9am as a cold front moves through. More widespread rainfall and possibly stronger storms are expected from late morning to early afternoon. Most will occur in the Northeast, but a few strong storms could move into the city of Houston.


The Storm Prediction Center placed Houston under a slight risk of severe weather on Saturday. We are at level 2 of 5.

The storms will subside in the evening as the cold front moves away. We will have cooler and drier air on Sunday.

New Year’s Eve brings lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s.
