Carlos Corberan has left his job at West Brom to take over as Valencia’s new head coach.

The LaLiga club confirmed the news that they had fulfilled the release clause in Corberan’s contract.

“The club has informed West Bromwich Albion FC of the implementation of the exit option set out in its contract to leave the English club.”

In a post on social media, former Valencia youth player Corberan said leaving West Brom was the “hardest” decision of his life.

“I cannot even begin to explain how I feel for West Bromwich Albion, its fans and everyone associated with the club,” Corberan wrote.

“In my more than two years here, I have felt nothing but LOVE from this community and the decision to leave was the hardest of my life.”

“This special club will ALWAYS have a place in my heart and I hope that one day I can return to thank you all for your incredible support.”

Former Huddersfield manager Corberan, who worked under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, took charge of the Hawthorns in October 2022, replacing Steve Bruce after he was sacked two weeks earlier.

In his first full season as manager, 2023/24, the Spaniard led the Baggies to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, only to be beaten in the semi-finals by eventual winners Southampton.

They currently sit seventh in League Two, outside the play-off places on goal difference, having lost just one of their last 14 games and traveling to Pride Park to face Derby live on Boxing Day Sky Sports Football.

Chris Brunt, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill will take charge of first-team duties until further notice, the Championship club confirmed.

West Brom chairman Shilen Patel paid tribute to Corberan as he left.

“I would like to thank Carlos for all his hard work since arriving at Albion during one of the most difficult times in the club’s modern era,” Patel wrote on social media.

“I am grateful for his contributions and wish Carlos and his family all the best in his new journey!”

Valencia sit second-to-last in LaLiga and have won just two league games, leading to the sacking of former Spain international Ruben Baraja.
