What happened on Yellowstone last night? A recap of the season finale

Editor’s note: This story contains spoilers from the season finale of “Yellowstone.”

Six years in the making, the hit series “Yellowstone” delivered eager fans an action-packed two-hour season finale that saw John Dutton (Kevin Costner) laid to rest and the ranch sold back to the original Native Americans who owned it generations ago.

The finale, “Life is a Promise,” aired on Sunday, December 15, leaving many wondering if this was really the end of the western drama that debuted in 2018. Some reports suggest that spin-offs are in the works, and according to Deadline, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have inked deals to star in a spin-off series, reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.

There were mixed feelings about the finale on the series’ official social media accounts. Many praised Kelly Reily’s performance as Beth Dutton and hoped that the show will actually live on in a spin-off series.

“What a phenomenal actress. She took us on an unforgettable journey. Forever in my heart,” one person wrote.

When is “Yellowstone” coming to Peacock?

According to The Wrap, there is no specific date for when the final episodes of “Yellowstone” will be available to stream on Peacock. However, it is speculated that it could be five to six months before you can stream the entire series on Peacock – around March or April 2025.

How did John Dutton die?

The final six episodes began with the murder of John Dutton by professional hitmen and the examination of his body on a morgue table after Costner left the series following a protracted dispute with creator and executive producer Taylor Sheridan. The grieving cowboy funeral is the perfect “Yellowstone” farewell: only his family, the bunkhouse staff and three close friends attend. Jamie isn’t invited and has no idea what’s going on.

As a final farewell, each participant places a white rose on the coffin. Beth, planning her next move, leans close to her beloved father’s coffin and vows in a whisper, “I will avenge you,” before staggering away.

Rip gets the best funeral lines, dismissing the preacher by saying, “I think we almost prayed. If he’s not in heaven, then he’s not going. Or there isn’t one.”

Beth kills her brother Jamie after their father’s funeral

Jamie seems to be in the clear after giving the speech of his life to reassure the public that he will find the governor’s killer and that he has absolutely nothing to do with the murdered lawyer Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri). who had hired contract killers. Claiming he had something to do with Atwood (his secret girlfriend) would be the real crime.

But Jamie can’t even pour a victory drink at home because Beth is waiting for her with a surprise made of tire iron. She hits Jamie and covers his face with bear spray. It’s a fierce battle: Jamie regains the combat advantage, loses it in typical villain style, and then regains it again.

Just before he can finally strangle Beth, Rip storms in and opens a big old can of what they need for Jamie. But Beth demands the final honor of killing her long-time nemesis: she stabs her heartless brother in the chest.

Kayce sells the Yellowstone Ranch for $1.25 an acre and Elsa Dutton rises from the dead to declare victory

Kayce cryptically suggested the Yellowstone sale at the end of last week’s episode, and stubborn financial whiz Beth loved the idea. In Sunday’s episode, Kayce sells the largest ranch in Montana to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), chairman of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock.

So the land will return to the Native American tribe from which the Dutton family inherited it generations ago. In another ironic twist, Kayce sells it for the ridiculously low price of $1.25 per acre, the original price his ancestors paid. The total bill for Montana’s largest (fictional) ranch is $1.1 million. Kayce and his family take a small piece of land to live quietly and away from any offshoots.

Rainwater promises that the land will never be developed and that the dead Duttons will be protected. “Your people are buried on this land, and mine too. It is sacred and that is how we will treat it.” Rainwater says. “Then your family will have a forever home here.”

Where do Rip and Beth end up in “Yellowstone”?

Beth recovers from her injuries (but with new scars on her face) and meets Rip, who is working on her new ranch outside of Dillon, Montana. You’re about two hours from Paradise Valley and still have to deal with tourists.

But after her father’s death is avenged, Beth suggests that the two go to town, where there is a great local bar where there are no feared outsiders. There is even a hitch post so they can ride and park their horses.

“Now, saddle your horse,” says Rip. The two go out for a drink – and most likely a new series.

“Yellowstone” spin-off with Rip and Beth

According to Deadline, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have signed on to direct a spin-off series in which they will reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
