What JJ Redick finds ‘weird’ about the struggling Lakers after a blowout loss

“Strange” indeed.

JJ Redick’s Lakers haven’t been able to do much right lately – losing six of their last eight games, including a 41-point loss to the Heat on Wednesday night.

“We’re having problems with base-level game plans on both sides right now,” Redick said after the 134-93 loss. “It’s strange. It’s very strange.”

“Strange” is an apt description, especially considering this Lakers team — now 12-10 — is off to a roaring start.

Los Angeles climbed to 10-4 from the start, not least because star forward Anthony Davis played basketball at an MVP level.

Not to mention, LeBron James beat Father Time when he opened his 21st NBA season at age 39.

Additionally, the Lakers found a gem in rookie sensation Dalton Knecht, who went 17th overall to Los Angeles in this year’s draft.

But the last three weeks haven’t exactly been good for the Lakers.

Those six losses in the last eight games resulted in an average of 21.8 points. And Wednesday night’s debacle marked a new low.

The Heat shot the lights out at the Kaseya Center, setting a new franchise record of 3s in a regular season game with 24. But they also worked harder at every point, including along the glass, where they outscored the Lakers 52-36.

Heat star Tyler Herro had the hottest hand of the night, knocking down nine 3-pointers. During one stretch, the 25-year-old scored seven goals in a row from behind the arc.

“It’s embarrassing,” Redick said after the game. “I’m embarrassed. It’s embarrassing for all of us. It’s not a game where I thought we had the right fight and the right professionalism.”

The Lakers shot 42 percent from the field and 22.7 percent from three in an unforgettable, clear night.

In his first season at the helm, Redick is far from alone in taking the blame.

“It’s not the coaches, it’s definitely us,” James said in his post-game press release. “It definitely sucks having your ass ripped like that…”

Davis added: “I personally just think it starts with myself. If I play better, the boys play better. I definitely take responsibility, especially for the last few games.”

While there’s still time to right the situation, words more blatant than “strange” will be circulating around Los Angeles if the Lakers can’t overcome Wednesday’s disaster.
