What the Mets’ lineup looks like with Juan Soto in it

Juan Soto is a generational talent who is now a New York Met thanks to Steve Cohen. His bat would greatly improve any lineup he joined, but with the Mets he joins an MVP candidate, an elite OBP player, and a rising star at the top of the lineup. What does the Mets’ lineup look like with Soto right now? Here is the projected lineup at Roster Resource.

  1. Francisco Lindor – SS
  2. Juan Soto – RF
  3. Mark Vientos – 1B
  4. Brandon Nimmo – LF
  5. Starling Marte – DH
  6. Jeff McNeil – 2B
  7. Tyrone Taylor – CF
  8. Francisco Alvarez – C
  9. Brett Baty – 3B

Obviously, it’s still early in the offseason and things can change – especially at third base and first base. Should Pete Alonso re-sign with the Mets, he would likely slide into the backup spot. A spot for Brett Baty is also not guaranteed should the Mets decide to upgrade at either position, and Nimmo could slide back to center field with Luisangel Acuña taking second base and McNeil playing left field.

Unfortunately for the Mets, their defense will take a hit in right field. Starling Marte has struggled on defense during his tenure with the Mets, and Soto isn’t the solution and might be a better fit as a DH. The addition of Jose Siri’s elite glove in centerfield should address any deficiencies in the right field.

The Mets’ lineup has already improved compared to the 2024 team. Alvarez still has the potential to break out, Vientos can improve on his great 2024 season and Acuña and to some extent Baty could have a chance to win a starting spot.

With the winter meetings just beginning, David Stearns will be a busy man in the coming days. He still needs to fill out the rotation, expand the bullpen and focus on where else he wants to move up in the lineup, but the addition of Soto is already a huge leap forward for the 2025 roster.
