Where Boston is in talks for White Sox Ace

The Boston Red Sox appear poised to make a big move at the Winter Meetings this week.

Boston’s top priority, despite their current ranking in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, is absolutely a starting front-line player. If the Red Sox would rather trade for one or even add one after signing a major free agent, Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet appears to be the best choice.

Heading into the Winter Meetings in Dallas, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo provided insight into Boston’s position in a potential chase for the southpaw.

“Continue to hear that the Red Sox are only on the sidelines of talks with Garrett Crochet and are not aggressors at all, at least until this point,” Cotillo wrote on X. “Cincinnati is viewed as a real threat to landing Crochet.” The Yankees thought they were in, too.”

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi also reported on “MLB Tonight” that while the Red Sox may not be the frontrunners right now, he believes they are just “one player away” in negotiations.

The meetings officially begin Monday, where the Red Sox could take their first step toward restoring their aggressiveness in player acquisition.
