BROWNS-STEELERS matchup preview

The Browns will try to eliminate their bitter rival and salvage a season of frustration for the second time in nearly three weeks.

Cleveland recently posted its 22nd losing season of the expansion era. But not everything is bleak and gloomy as in the past years of losses.

Cleveland has been prepared for a wild ride this season with veteran quarterback Jameis Winston. His final performance resulted in a career-high 497 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions, including two pick-6s against the Denver Broncos.

He threw six interceptions in two losses.

Winston rushed for 1,763 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Steelers only recorded one sack at the signal caller in the first meeting, which was a strip sack that led to a score.

In what continues to be a slow recovery from a brutal leg injury at the end of last season, running back Nick Chubb delivered a strong performance in an emotional game against the Steelers, rushing for two touchdowns and 59 yards. Chubb was held to just 21 yards rushing against the Broncos. He has 82 carries for 243 yards and three touchdowns, an average of three yards per carry.

With Winston’s emergence, Cleveland has transitioned to a pass-heavy offense, which has benefited a major acquisition this season.

Jerry Jeudy has emerged as a key weapon for the Browns. Then his career-high performance of 235 yards and a touchdown against his former team in Denver is for you. Jeudy was held in check against Pittsburgh on November 21st, recording just four receptions for 43 yards.

He has accumulated 54 receptions for 880 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 16.3 yards per reception.

Rising receiver Elijah Moore reached his full potential toward the end of the season. Moore has 50 receptions for 447 yards and one touchdown, averaging 8.9 yards per reception.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett recorded three sacks against the Steelers in their last meeting. Garrett has recorded 27 solo tackles, 10 sacks and three forced fumbles this season. He is committed to defending his defensive crown.

Three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward recorded 22 solo tackles, a forced fumble and two interceptions. He leads the NFL in pass deflections with 19.

Cleveland converted all four fourth down attempts against the Steelers in the first meeting. All of them were on racing trips. Cleveland is 20 of 30 on fourth down this season.

The Steelers will look to get revenge for the Thursday Night Football snowball game. This completes an eye-opening run of four straight division games.

Pittsburgh remains atop the AFC North after its wild Week 13 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Since losing to the Browns in Week 12, they have won their 21st straight undefeated season.

Senior quarterback Russell Wilson has rushed for 1,626 yards and 10 touchdowns with three interceptions. Backup quarterback Justin Fields can be used at any time and has 1,106 yards and five touchdowns with one interception through the air and 281 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Running back Najee Harris has hauled in 207 carries for 824 yards and four touchdowns. Versatile defensive back Jaylen Warren has 78 carries for 312 yards and a touchdown. He also racked up 197 receiving yards.

Star receiver George Pickens made headlines with his encounter with Browns’ defensive back Greg Newsome II and general comments about Cleveland’s football team. Pickens has 55 receptions for 850 yards and three touchdowns, an average of 15.5 yards per reception.

In the afternoon you should watch the second game between Pickens and Browns. Pickens is questionable with a hamstring injury.

Tight end Pat Freiermuth has 41 receptions for 422 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 10.3 yards per reception.

Pittsburgh will want to capitalize on Winston’s wild ride in Denver. Linebacker TJ Watt will have a hammering presence trying to put the upside-down signal-caller in a mixer.

Watt recorded 31 solo tackles, 9.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. His constant comparison to Garrett is just one of the many more exciting storylines for the latest installment of the rivalry.

He went without a sack for the second time in 13 games against the Browns.

Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick recorded 49 solo tackles and a forced fumble. Linebacker Alex Highsmith, who missed the first meeting, is back and will bolster a strong defense. He has recorded 11 solo tackles with three sacks this season.

Pittsburgh lost the battle for field position in the first game; The averaging begins at your own 29 yard line. Cleveland played in the winter mix and began its possessions at its own 41 line. Pittsburgh needs to find a way to reverse that advantage, steal the momentum from the Browns and force Winston into long, time-consuming offenses.

Pittsburgh leads the all-time series 81-64-1. Cleveland hasn’t beaten the Steelers in the Steel City in the regular season since 2003. The Browns are looking for their first regular season series win since 1988.
