Who can participate in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Prospects who have exhausted their college eligibility can be selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Some prospects may be eligible for an extra year due to the NCAA granting college football players a COVID year. If these prospects wish to return to school for their additional year, they must opt ​​out of the 2025 draft.

Certain prospective students who are still in the lower level of study may decide to give up their remaining university entrance qualification and apply for special admission.

By when do underclassmen have to apply for their special authorization?

  • Because the NFL Draft allows underclassmen to participate in college all-star games, a “soft” deadline of Jan. 6 was added to allow players to submit their special eligibility requests to the league sooner. An initial list of names will be made available to NFL teams and the public on January 7th. Players have until January 9th to revoke their entry.
  • The traditional “hard” deadline for underclassmen to petition the league is January 15th. A list of names will be made available to NFL teams and the public on January 16th. Players have until January 18th to revoke their submission.
  • A special “championship deadline” of January 24th has been set exclusively for players from teams participating in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Players have until January 27th to revoke their submission.

When will the NFL announce who has been granted special eligibility?

The final list of underclassmen approved by the NFL to participate will be made available to the 32 teams and the public on January 25th. An underclassman is not eligible for the draft until his petition is approved and his name is released to the league.
