While You Were Sleeping: Jasprit Bumrah strikes early for India, Siraj changes bail, Nitish Reddy sends Labuschagne back | Cricket News

Australia openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, who safely survived a stop-and-start on the opening day, fell to Jasprit Bumrah on the second day of the third Test at the Gabba.

Review of day 1

India won the toss and sent Australia to bat. In the sixth round, rain interrupted the game for around 30 minutes. About half an hour later and until the scheduled lunch break, there was another rainfall. Khawaja had 19 and McSweeney 4 and Australia were 28-0 after 13.2 overs, their only action of the day.

Bumrah sends Khawaja back

It was that man Bumrah again who has caused problems for Australia so far in the series.

In the fourth over of the day, Bumrah got rid of Usman Khawaja. The Australian southpaw was hit on the crease in defense and Bumrah found the weakest outside edge.

It took a while for referee Richard Illingworth to raise his finger but eventually he did and Khawaja’s poor performance continues.

Bumrah gets another one

Nathan McSweeney struggled at the crease during his 49-ball spell but always looked vulnerable.

Bumrah bowled a ball just short of a length and McSweeney was neither at the back nor at the front and ended up hitting straight to Virat Kohli at second slip.

Smith and Marnus hold their ground

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne survived Bumrah’s outburst and easily got past the other Indian pacers.

Bumrah continued to trouble Marnus Labuschagne again and again and the Australian No.3 applauded and nodded every time he was beaten.

The duo managed 38 runs for the third wicket.

NKR catches Marnus with the help of Siraj

Nitish Kumar Reddy got the coveted wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. Marnus tries the extravagant drive and at second slip he gains a big lead against Virat Kohli, who can grab it well over his head.

Previously, Mohammed Siraj had exchanged the deposit and had an interesting exchange with Marnus. However, Marnus switched the ball again as Siraj went back to his bowling run.
