Who is Aliya Fakhri, the sister of Nargis Fakhri, who was arrested on alleged murder charges?

Aliya Fakhri, Nargis Fakhri’s sister, was arrested in New York for allegedly killing her former boyfriend and his boyfriend. In a news report from People, Aliya was arrested on November 26 and indicted by a jury the next day. She faces four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder and arson. She has so far been refused bail and if convicted, Aliya could face life in prison.

Prosecutors allege that Aliya Fakhri, 43, intentionally set fire to the detached garage of a home in the borough of Queens on Nov. 23, killing her ex-boyfriend Edward Jacobs, 35, and his girlfriend Anastasia Ettienne, 33, according to the indictment Fakhri arrived at the property around 6:20 a.m. and was heard shouting, “Today you are all going to die,” before lighting the fire.

According to a Daily News report quoting District Attorney Melinda Katz: “As alleged in this indictment, this defendant maliciously ended the lives of two people by starting a fire that left a man and a woman in a raging inferno caught. The victims tragically died from smoke exposure. “Our condolences go out to the families of Edward Jacobs and Anastasia Ettienne as we pursue this case.”

According to the reports, Jacobs, a father of three, separated from Aliya Fakhri about a year ago. His mother told the New York Post that she was having a hard time coming to terms with the breakup. “Like any other person who gets rejected, he let them know, ‘Yo, I’m done with you.’ Get away from me.’ “He’s been trying to tell her to leave him alone for a year, but she hasn’t accepted the rejection,” the publication quoted Jacobs’ mother as saying. She also clarified that Jacobs and Ettienne were friends and did not have a romantic relationship

On the other hand, the New York Daily News also quoted Aliya Fakhri’s mother, Marie Fakhri, who defended her and said she did not believe her daughter had anything to do with the fire. “I don’t think she would kill anyone. She was a person who cared about everyone,” she told the publication.

Aliya is reportedly being held at the Rose M Singer Center on Rikers Island and her next court date is December 9th. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Aliya Fakhri is 43, a few years younger than rockstar actor Nargis Fakhri. She grew up in Queens, New York City. While her father Mohammed Fakhri is Pakistani, her mother Marie Fakhri is Czech. Her parents divorced when the daughters were still quite young.
