Of starring roles in Netflix Moxie to HBO Max’s darlingsand even an appearance in Olivia RodrigoNico makes a name for himself in the music video for “brutal”. But who exactly is this rising star who is everywhere yet seems like an enigma? Read on to find out five interesting facts about the actor that might surprise you.

Nico was born a Sagittarius on December 19, 1997 and grew up in San Francisco, California. Before becoming an actor, he had ambitions of becoming a professional skateboarder. He was even sponsored when he was just 14 years old, but an injury forced him to retire from the skateboarding world.

Reflecting on his upbringing and career turning point, Nico shared Highsnobiety“I grew up in the city of San Francisco, knew nothing about Hollywood and didn’t watch much TV. When I was younger, I skipped school to go out on the streets with my buddies, ice skate and wreak havoc. I didn’t go to Julliard, I didn’t even go to college, and I barely made it out of high school.”

After his injury, he wondered what to do next. “I couldn’t skate and I was like, ‘What should I do?’” he said. “So I thought, ‘Let’s try acting,’ and that’s when it all came into play.” Obviously, it was a decision that worked in his favor.

Nico’s unique upbringing also shaped his personality and work ethic. “My mother is a hippie and my father is a strict Japanese,” he said during an interview with GOAT. “It’s the strangest couple, but it fits really well together and makes us a solid family. Her dressing style, her parenting style – I couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
