Will it snow in Nashville? How much snow can we expect in Middle Tennessee?

Ahead of a cold week, light snow flurries are expected in the Nashville area.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a dust cloud of less than an inch for the Middle Tennessee and Upper Cumberland Plateau region between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday

According to the weather service, clouds will thicken rapidly around midday, then patchy, light precipitation will spread across the area, particularly in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

The areas most likely to see dust formation are east of Interstate 24 and north of Interstate 40, the weather service said. However, the chance of areas receiving an inch of snow is less than 10%.

“Most of the ‘action’ will just be thundershowers and possibly some liquid splashes during the warmer afternoon hours,” the weather service reported. “But there will also be isolated snow showers, which may cause a light dusting here and there.”

“Overall, we do not expect significant travel disruptions and many of us will experience nothing more than thunderstorms,” the weather service added.

Temperatures are expected to fall in the evening and persistent severe weather will occur in the upper plateau area. However, any patches of snow are expected to dry out late tonight when rainfall ceases.

Several cold fronts are expected for the Nashville area

Back-to-back cold fronts are expected throughout the week. According to the weather service, an “increasing shot of cool air” is expected from Monday to Tuesday night, with highs of just 30°C.

Another cold front on Wednesday brings the chance of showers, followed by another “increasing shot of cold air” for Thursday night and Friday.

Monday: Highs around 40°C with a slight chance of rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm. There is a 30% chance of precipitation, with little to no snow accumulation expected.

Mostly cloudy, with lows around 22°C and a chance of thunderstorms with a slight chance of snow showers between 10pm and 11pm. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a high around 38°C and mostly clear with a low around 23°C overnight.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high around 51°C. Mostly cloudy with a low of around 33°C overnight and a 20% chance of showers before midnight.

Thursday: Sunny with a high of around 41°C and mostly clear, with a low of around 19°C overnight.
