Windy with falling temperatures Wednesday through Thursday

Behind a cold front, temperatures will drop until Wednesday with gusty northwest winds. From Wednesday night into Thursday morning we will experience cool, below freezing winds across the country before warming up.

Windy with dropping temperatures on Wednesday

Strong winds and a layer of fresh snow will reduce visibility in northwestern Minnesota on Wednesday, prompting a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. A wind advisory will be issued for much of the rest of Minnesota on Wednesday.

For the rest of us, we will see scattered light freezing rain and snow showers early Wednesday and into the afternoon ahead of the front. Look for some smooth spots. Any snowfall accumulations will just be quickly dusted off by a layer.

Our high temperatures for Wednesday came early this morning. Temperatures will drop throughout the day behind the strong cold front. Temperatures will be in the teens and single digits this evening.

Gusty northwest winds will bring cold and wind chill. Winds will be howling at speeds of 15-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph or more. Parts of the North Coast could experience gusts of 60 miles per hour.

Overnight lows will fall into the single digits for most, with readings in northwestern Minnesota below zero early Thursday morning.

Highs will be in the teens and single digits on Thursday, but we should see more sunshine and winds will gradually die down.

Temperatures will climb back into the 20s and 100s on Friday, and we’re in for a comparable “heat wave” this weekend. Highs will be 30 and even 40 degrees across southern Minnesota on Saturday and Sunday.

Another weaker clipper system is likely to sweep through northeastern Minnesota Friday into Saturday, potentially bringing light accumulations.
