Winter weather warnings issued for snow and ice potential this weekend | News

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory for central and northern Iowa. This will be in effect from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. Accumulations of snow and ice are likely, leading to hazardous travel conditions on Saturday. Winter weather advisories may expand to other parts of eastern Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Note on winter weather

A storm system taking shape over the central Rockies will move into the Midwest on Friday. Before that, temperatures will warm to over 20°C on Friday afternoon. Warming will continue overnight and into Saturday as snow and freezing rain move across Iowa and into Minnesota and Wisconsin. There is a possibility of a layer of ice becoming visible across much of southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, with higher ice accumulations possible throughout Iowa. Even a light layer of ice is enough to make the roads slippery and deprive vehicles of traction. Please use caution if you plan to drive on Saturday as ice and snow will move through.

Possible ice accumulation
