With Barbashev’s 13th, the Golden Knights are ahead of the Oilers – Las Vegas Sun News

End of the first period: Barbashev’s 13th puts the Golden Knights ahead of the Oilers

Despite eight combined shots during that period, the Vegas Golden Knights prevailed 1-0 against the Edmonton Oilers thanks to Ivan Barbashev’s 13th goal of the season.

Jack Eichel and Barbashev took advantage of an Oilers turnover in the Golden Knights’ zone and forced a 2-on-1 against Evan Bouchard. Bouchard tried to deflect Eichel’s pass, but the puck bounced off Bouchard and onto the stick of Barbashev, who beat Jeff Skinner for the goal with five holes.

Despite a faster game, the shots are low. The Golden Knights had a 5-3 lead. Vegas’ defense stayed sharp, blocking 10 shots. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, Edmonton’s leading scorers, have yet to record a single shot.

Pre-game: The Golden Knights look to bounce back at home against the Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights suffered one of the worst losses in franchise history on Saturday and will look for a chance to bounce back against the Edmonton Oilers today at 7 p.m. at T-Mobile Arena.

The Golden Knights were defeated by the Utah Hockey Club 6-0 on Saturday. Just over 24 hours later, they had defeated the NHL’s best team, the Winnipeg Jets, 4-3.

But coach Bruce Cassidy and the players said they had put Saturday’s chaotic performance behind them.

November was a long month for Vegas due to travel, lack of training and a growing injury list. However, the Golden Knights will only travel five times this month, compared to nine away games last month.

The Golden Knights’ injury list has also shrunk significantly.

Forward Victor Olofsson, who had been on injured reserve for seven weeks, returned to the lineup on Saturday.

Mark Stone, who has missed the last 12 games, returned to team training on Monday in a “no-contact” jersey and was back in a regular jersey on Tuesday. He was ruled out for today’s game but could return soon.

While Vegas believes the turnaround has come, the Oilers are on a three-game winning streak. Most recently, they defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 in Denver on Saturday. Leon Draisaitl is second in the league with the most goals with 17.
