WNBA Rumors: Jewell Loyd asks Storm for trade; Won 2 titles in 10 seasons | News, results, highlights, statistics and rumors

Guard Jewell Loyd has played for the Seattle Storm throughout her WNBA career, but that could change in the near future.

Annie Costabile from the Chicago Sun Times reported on Wednesday that Loyd had requested a trade. The report comes after Storm announced that the external investigation into allegations of harassment and bullying by the coaching staff found no violations.

“The Storm recently received internal allegations of possible workplace policy violations,” the statement from ESPN’s Kevin Pelton said. “The organization hired an outside investigator to conduct an impartial investigation into the allegations. The investigation has been completed and no findings of policy violations or discrimination, harassment or bullying were identified.”

Costabile explained that this could be a “roster overhaul” offseason for the Storm even beyond Loyd, with the expansion draft due Friday and players like Nneka Ogwumike, Mercedes Russell, Gabby Williams and Sami Whitcomb slated for free agency .

But losing Loyd, who signed a two-year supermax extension with the team in September 2023, would be the biggest development of the offseason from a roster perspective.

After all, she has become a franchise legend since Seattle selected her with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft. Her resume includes two championships, the 2015 Rookie of the Year, the 2023 scoring title, three All-WNBA selections and six All-Star nominations.

Seattle won the 2018 and 2020 WNBA titles, with Loyd being both teams’ second-leading scorer behind Breanna Stewart. When Stewart moved to the New York Liberty for the 2023 season, she took on an even larger role as a scorer.

Loyd averaged a league-best 24.7 points per game this season, even though the Storm did not make the playoffs.

In 2024, they were much better at 25-15 after the addition of Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins-Smith, although they were defeated by the Las Vegas Aces in the first round of the playoffs.

However, the 2025 roster could look very different, especially if Loyd is traded.
