A woman was shot in line at a Walmart in North Carolina by a 17-year-old stranger who wanted to “incite fear,” police said.

Ezekiel Burden remains on the run after allegedly killing 42-year-old Brandy Nicole Olson in Lumberton on Friday.

Burden is wanted on charges of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm in an enclosed space to cause fear and arming himself to frighten people, the sheriff’s office said.

Another teenager, 18-year-old Brian Campbell, is also wanted by police in connection with the incident, Robeson police said.

Campbell is charged with accessory after the fact, officials said, and he also remains at large.

When officers arrived at Walmart following reports of a shooting, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds while bystanders attempted to provide life-saving measures.

By the time police arrived, the shooter had already left the scene.

Police later said the incident appeared to be an “isolated incident” and that those responsible “targeted two people they knew” who were standing at the Woodforest Bank at the Walmart Super Center.

As shots were fired, Olsen, who was waiting in line, was hit and killed.

Her boyfriend, Orlando Farrington, said he was waiting for Olsen outside when he heard gunshots and ran inside to look for her, but didn’t realize she was the victim until she was being taken into an ambulance.

“I couldn’t believe it was her,” he told ABC 11. “It was hard… I miss her.” Friends and family gathered Sunday at the restaurant where Olsen worked to remember her.

A motive has not been revealed and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Blake Harrell of the Lumberton Police Department at (910) 671-3845.
