NEW DELHI: When Nitish Kumar Reddy Former India head coach Ravi Shastri, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan and TV anchor Jatin Sapru erupted in pure elation in the commentary box.
Their celebration reflected the significance of the young batsman’s 100 for India and came at a critical time when the visitors had fallen behind on the third day of the fourth Test against Australia at the MCG.

The moment Reddy reached his 100th year became the defining moment of the series for India. Balancing his helmet with his bat, he knelt and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian dugout, who gave him a standing ovation.
In the stands near the pitch boundary, Reddy’s father couldn’t contain his emotions and burst into tears as he watched his son reach this remarkable milestone.

“Yeh aankon mein aansoo wala 100 hai, sirf pitaji ka nahi mere khyal pura crowd jo yahan pe hai sabke aankh mein aansu honge” (This is a tearful moment, not just for his father but I think everyone in the crowd will be here do have tears in their eyes,” said Shastri.
Reddy’s century proved crucial in rescuing India from a precarious situation and dealt a major blow to Australia’s chances of a Boxing Day Test Victory.
