‘Yellowstone’ fans say Season 5 finale played out like a ‘little tantrum’, ‘beautifully done’

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Yellowstone” Season 5, Episode 14.

The “Yellowstone” finale ended with a bang for some and a whimper for many.

With the fifth season finale – and presumably the series finale, despite confusing messages from Paramount Network – the show ended the legacy of the Dutton Ranch by selling it to Thomas Rainwater so that Market Equities couldn’t build their tourist resort on the land.

Jamie also finally got his just reward for the hand he played in John’s death at the hands of Beth with the support of Rip. Then everyone went their separate ways there. There was a lot of build-up to the series’ various announced (and likely unannounced) spin-offs, which may have contributed to what many felt was a bloated ending.

The oversized finale sparked mixed reactions from fans. One called the episode a “beautifully crafted” farewell for the Dutton family, while another said the episode played out like a “little tantrum” following creator Taylor Sheridan’s feud with star Kevin Costner.
