Zach Ertz downplays postgame confrontation with Nick Sirianni: It’s overblown

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was reportedly surprised by the strength of the High Five Commanders tight end Zach Ertz hit him with after the game between the two teams on Sunday. That prompted Sirianni to mock Ertz’s lack of impact in the game after Ertz made a catch for 12 yards.

Ertz then attacked Sirianni in front of the Eagles’ head of security Dom DiSandro separated them.

Sirianni reportedly apologized later on a Zoom call, saying Thursday, “I’m just going to keep my conversations with all the guys private. “I have a lot of respect for Zach. Great football player, great person to be with. I really have a lot of respect for Zach and all the good things he’s done and my relationship with him.”

Ertz spent his first eight or more seasons with the Eagles, but played just six games for Sirianni in 2021 before the team traded him to Arizona.

Ertz did not deny the altercation but said it was “completely exaggerated.”

“Nick and I had a great relationship when I was there and we still have a great relationship. That was definitely it completely exaggerated” Ertz said, via ESPN’s John Keim. “We have spoken. We’re fine. There are no hard feelings on my part, and I don’t think there are any hard feelings on his part. It’s just something that was exaggerated in the heat of the moment and may be a misunderstanding. But he and I are fine. Everyone knows how I feel about this place and this building, but at the same time I love being here.”

Ertz’s career contributions to the Eagles – 579 receptions, 6,267 receiving yards and the go-ahead touchdown catch in Super Bowl LII – will not soon be forgotten by Eagles fans.
